National Water Dance

Trinity River Dallas, TX April 18, 2026

improvisational score by Lauren Kravitz

National Water Dance is a national community of dancers and movers who believe in the power of dance to move our bodies, our spirits, and our collective energies in bringing attention to the fragility of our waters and the impact of climate change. By creating a national simultaneous movement choir, we unite with our neighbors across the United States to move with one voice for responsible stewardship of our Earth. About our performance: The Trinity River is central to Dallas' history. The river was a crucial resource for indigenous tribes and has been a site for the transportation of goods and people since the early 1800's. We dance at this particular portion of the river--running just south of downtown Dallas--to honor the substantial impact of the river on our city and advocate for its continued preservation. In the early 20th century, this portion of the river became overrun with harmful pollutants and later efforts to clean up the river (with the federal Clean Water Act of 1972) have increased water quality significantly. Our site, featuring the iconic Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and the Trinity Skyline Trail, acts a space for communal gathering, recreation, and transportation. We honor the river's past and advocate for its future through our dance.
