Lauren Kravitz is a freelance dance artist, educator, and arts administrator dedicated to creating meaningful points of entry into movement through performance, research, and embodied practice. Based in both Dallas, TX and New York City, her work explores the intersections of people, environment, and play. As a performer, Lauren has brought her distinct physicality and thoughtful presence to a wide range of stages and contexts, from contemporary dance venues to operatic and installation-based settings. She currently performs with Seán Curran Company, where she also serves as Rehearsal Director, and has danced with Take Dance, Indah Walsh Dance Company, UNA Projects, and Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company. Her performances have been featured at BAM Harvey Theater, Danspace Project, Joe’s Pub, Skirball Center, St. Ann’s Warehouse, Symphony Space, and Kaatsbaan, as well as in international and interdisciplinary festivals such as Spring to Dance and Brinca Brunca in Costa Rica. Additional credits include opera performances with Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Opera Lafayette at the Kennedy Center, and in installation performance, notably This is Propaganda by Tino Sehgal.
As a choreographer and collaborative artist, Lauren is drawn to work that is both grounded and investigative. She co-creates with longtime collaborator Shantel Prado, presenting original works in venues ranging from galleries and community centers to theaters and public spaces. Their recent works include Water Work (PAGEANT, Brooklyn), Later (Westbeth Community Center), Gus (Jack Crystal Theater), and Bath Time (Holyrad Gallery). In Dallas, she helped shape innovative site-specific performances including Tether at Arts Mission Oak Cliff and The Eldert Lofts at the Dallas Contemporary and Wyly Theater. Her creative process emphasizes improvisation, co-authorship, and adaptability to space and context.
Lauren is a dedicated educator committed to cultivating curiosity and rigor in the studio. She has taught contemporary technique, improvisation, and choreography in academic and pre-professional settings across the country, including New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Booker T. Washington HSPVA, and Sam Houston State University. At NYU Tisch, she has been a guest artist in multiple capacities—teaching improvisation in the high school summer program, setting repertory, and reconstructing original work for the Future Dancers & Dancemakers program. Her teaching emphasizes phrase development, embodied listening, and collaborative exploration, and she has guest taught at institutions including The Wooden Floor, University of North Texas, and East Village Dance Project.
In addition to her work as an artist and educator, Lauren is a passionate advocate for sustainable creative ecosystems. She co-founded Agora Artists, a Dallas-based initiative dedicated to supporting dancers through workshops, festivals, and professional development opportunities. As a grant writer and organizer, she has secured significant funding and built programs which offered performance, teaching, and self-production opportunities to local artists. Lauren also served as Director of Development at Arts Mission Oak Cliff, where she wrote successful grant applications and helped create initiatives like the Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program. Her work in arts administration is grounded in care, systems-thinking, and a commitment to accessible, artist-centered infrastructure.
She received her early training from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dance.
